Business Intelligence

Written by  Administrator

Business Intelligence (BI) refers to an array of data management, analysis, and presentation techniques and practices that offer speedy access to large volumes of reliable information (for example, major KPIs) that enable a timely, valid and effective decision making process.

Business Intelligence solutions offer data collection, organization and processing capabilities from different points/sources of an enterprise, creating a large, uniform, and integrated volume of data and contributing to making timely and documented business decisions.
With the use of various statistical models, Business Intelligence tools predict specific future behaviors, taking into account a variety of current and future circumstances. This allows an enterprise to take appropriate measures and make appropriate decisions based on its business objectives.

In most enterprises, customer data are collected with each transaction and, hence, accumulate at an extremely rapid pace. BI's greatest advantage is the capability of illustrating this data in a way that is easily understood.

A business intelligence project is considered successful when the complementary and principal applications, infrastructures, architecture and services are optimally combined with a view to providing quality information—well serving an enterprise. Further important assessment criteria, with respect to the effective implementation of Business Intelligence solutions, are: the extensive assessment and understanding of business needs, the focus on each customer’s special needs, the enterprise's business maturity level, the quality of data, and the current automation process.

To provide solutions of outstanding quality, Uni Systems has actively invested in human capital and Business Intelligence technology, to promote solutions that can be quickly developed, with the least amount of risk for your enterprise. These integrated solutions ensure that each component has been optimised to meet specific business intelligence needs and offer simple and secure implementation with the maximum business benefit.

Business Intelligence solutions vary according to need; they provide added value to standardised data management systems in three ways:

  • By offering the capability to enter and cleanse data from multiple data sources in a separate data mart or data warehouse
  • By enabling, with data storage either in a relational (star-schema) structure or a multi-dimensional cube format, the speedy retrieval of summary information while, at the same time, offering the capability of drilling down to detail view
  • By creating, with the delivery of customised updates and searches and analysis capabilities that go far beyond the basic capabilities of transactional system reports, a demand for more in-depth business knowledge as well as the generation of faster and better ideas.

A basic component of a business intelligence solution is the Data Warehouse infrastructure, a common data “warehouse” for all information that may be of interest to an organization.
The Data Warehouse infrastructure consists of the following sub-systems:

  1. The data collection, cleansing and preparation subsystem. Particular emphasis is placed on data preparation and transformation so that knowledge mining from this data is as efficient as possible.

  2. The database, where all data are stored after collection and processing.
  3. Report and query generation tools, which offer the capability of submitting questions, conducting searches and generating reports on an ex-post basis with dynamic standards that are determined per case by users.
